FACT-CHECK

We noticed “Shaffaf” written on a banner. Upon searching, it came to light that it is a packaged drinking water brand whose office is situated in Shalibanda, Hyderabad.

Taking a clue, we found the same video shared online last year. NDTV reported the same video on Twitter.

According to the report, Hyderabad police used force to restrain protestors gathered at Shalibanda in Hyderabad on 25 August 2022 over alleged remarks of suspended BJP leader T Raja Singh on Prophet Muhammad.

We found several news reports about this incident. According to Siasat, Hyderabad police on 25 August 2022 barged into several homes and dragged out Muslim youth in and around Shalibanda as protests against the suspended BJP MLA swelled over his derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

Heavy stone pelting was reported by protesters who were unwilling to listen to the police and tried to reach Shalibanda from anywhere they could. The police then resorted to the lathi charge on protestors, said the report.

CONCLUSION

Hence, an old video from Hyderabad is being peddled with false information. 12 people have been arrested in connection with the communal violence in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar city as of now. Police have formed eight teams to trace and arrest the miscreants involved in the clash.
