Fact Check-

A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same image published on the NBC News website on 6 February 2023. According to the report, the visual of this damaged building is from the Kahramanmaras region in Turkey after the earthquake early last month. More than 2600 people died in Turkey and Northern Syria after an earthquake.

The same image was uploaded to the Getty Images website on 6 February this year. According to the information, this is a destroyed building in Kahramanmaras, Turkey after a massive earthquake of 7.4 magnitudes hit the region.

After the video got viral on social media, Kupwara District Police called the post to be fake. In a tweet police said, “The news regarding three deaths being spread on social media, in Karnah Kupwara in the earthquake is fake. Please desist from spreading fake news. DC & SSP Kupwara are already in Karnah in connection with an official visit.

Police further warned people that strict actions will be taken against people who are spreading such fake news and creating panic among the public.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The video of the collapsed building is not from the Karnah Kupwara region in J&K but from Turkey. This is a damaged building in the Kahramanmaras region of Turkey after a massive earthquake early last month.
