Is This A Video of Pulwama Terror Attack in 2019? Know The Truth

CCTV footage of an explosion is going viral on social media. It can be seen in the video that a moving vehicle exploded while running on the road. This video has been shared and claimed to be the scene of the terrorist attack that took place in Pulwama on 14 February 2019. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an old video from Iraq and not related to the Pulwama attack. 

What’s The Claim?

Sharing this video, social media users are claiming that on 14 February 2019 (Black Day) India lost 44 soldiers in Pulwama terrorist attack.

Fact Check – 

A Google Reverse Image Search on various keyframes of the viral video led us to the same video uploaded on a YouTube Channel on 6 March 2008. 

We also found the same video posted on YouTube on December 9, 2008, which claimed to be an incident of a VBIED IED blast from Iraq in 2007.

After searching on Google using various keywords, we found the same video broadcasted on a website. In this video we can see the date of the incident as 2 September 2007. 

From the above facts, it is clear that the viral video was available on the internet much before the Pulwama attack took place. Therefore, there is no possibility that this video can be a visual of the terrorist attack. 

After further investigation we found that there was no CCTV camera system on the Jammu and Kashmir highway before the Pulwama terror attack. Post this incident, state police were ordered to install CCTV on the Srinagar-Sonmarg and Lakhanpur- Srinagar highways.

Conclusion: 

From the above facts it is evident that the viral video of the explosion is not related to Pulwama. This video was available on the internet much before the terrorist attack. Fact Crescendo also found that there were no CCTV cameras on the highways in Jammu Kashmir before the attack.
