Nirmala Sitharaman is not interacting with her father in this video

The man in the video is not Nirmala Sitharaman’s father instead is KV Krishnan, nephew of Tamil poet SubramaniamBharathi.

A video showing the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman greeting an aged man is widely circulating on the internet. In this video, Nirmala Sitharaman can be seen greeting and speaking with an elderly person. Users claim that Nirmala Sitharaman can be seen interacting with her father in the video during her official visit to her hometown.

The caption of the viral post states, “Indian finance minister meeting her father in his house. Look at the house condition. She came to her father’s town for an official work, on the way, she visited her father at the home, and she is introducing her team members to him and her father also introducing his son, daughter in law & grandsons to them.”

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by running a reverse image and keyword search on Google, whose results led us to a similar video published by Nirmala Sitharaman on 3 December 2022. The caption of the video states, “Siva Madam is the place where Mahakavi Bharathiyar stayed during his visit to Varanasi in 1900s. #KashiTamilSangamam.”

Keeping this in mind, we did a keyword search on Google and found that Nirmala Sitharaman also posted this video on her Instagram account on 4 December 2022. It states that she visited Siva Madam in Varanasi and interacted with the family members of Mahakavi Bharathiar; including his 96-year-old nephew Mr. K.V. Krishnan.

The caption states, “Visited Siva Madam in Varanasi yesterday and interacted with the family members of Mahakavi Bharathiyar, including his 96-year-old great nephew Shri K. V. Krishnan. #KashiTamilSangamam.”

In this, she has clearly states that the person she met was KV Krishnan, the nephew of a Tamil poet Subramaniam Bharathi. She did not mention anywhere that she met her father.

Let us tell you that recently a one-month program ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’was organized in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This video is from when Nirmala Sitharaman attended it.

Going further into the investigation, we found photographs of Nirmala Sitharaman’s parents, Savitri Sitharaman and Narayanan Sitharaman, published in the ABP Newsreport. This report was broadcasted on 5 July 2019. The report states that these pictures were taken when Nirmala Sitharaman presented her first budget.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The person Nirmala Sitharaman is meeting in this video is not her father but KV Krishnan, nephew of Tamil poet SubramaniamBharathi.
