Hollywood movie set shared as recent Nepal plane crash

This video is from the set of the 2005 Hollywood movie “War of the Worlds” at Universal Studios in California, United States.

Yeti Airlines Flight 691, which crashed in Nepal’s Pokhara on January 15, is thought to have killed all 72 people on board. After this incident, many posts and videos are going viral on social media. One such video is now going viral in which a plane crashes on the road in a wrecked state. It is claimed to be a video of a plane crash in Nepal. 

But Fact Crescendo found the viral claim false. Let’s check the truth.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by running a simple reverse image search on Google, with the key frames of the video and whose results led us to the stock image website of Alamy, which had uploaded almost same of the viral video image on 1 October 2012. The images are said to be from “War of the Worlds Movie Plane Crash Site In Universal Studios Theme Park, Los Angeles, California, USA”.

We looked further into the web and found the same video posted on YouTube 6 years ago. The information provided with the video says that it is the set of the plane crash of the film ‘War of the Worlds’ of Universal Studios Hollywood Cinema. 

War of the Worlds is a 2005 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Josh Friedman and David Koepp, based on H. G. Wells’ 1898 novel.

We did a keyword search and discovered a longer version of the same video uploaded to the YouTube channel “Theme Park Connect” on 14 June, 2020. As per this channel, the video was from the location of Steven Spielberg’s movie “War of the Worlds”, released in 2005. The description also said the site is still present at Universal Studios Hollywood in California, United States.

We found out that this viral video is located near Universal Studios in America. You can also see it on Google Maps below. 

Thus, it is clear that the viral video does not show the wreckage of the recent airplane crash in Nepal.
