The video is edited and Elon Musk has not announced to buy the META Company

After Elon Musk took over the microblogging website Twitter, another video showing Elon Musk in an interview is widely circulating on social media. Musk can be heard saying ‘I predict that I will buy tomorrow the entire META Company. Facebook and Instagram will be mine too.’ Users are sharing this video with the claim that Elon Musk intends to buy the META Company after Twitter. This video has gained over 3 million views.

However, Fact Crescendo has found that the video is edited.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by conducting a reverse image search on Google, whose results led us to a YouTube video published on 14 April 2022 by a channel named ‘TED’. The caption of the video states, “Elon Musk talks Twitter, Tesla and how his brain works — live at TED2022”. This video shows the unedited conversation with head of TED Chris Anderson, Elon Musk — the head of Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink and The Boring Company — digs into the recent news around his bid to purchase Twitter.
We went through the entire 54 minutes video however, we could not find any timestamp where Elon Musk can be heard saying that he plans to buy META.

In this video, Musk can be heard talking about his motivation to buy Twitter, the difficulties he faced during the manufacturing process as Tesla and the future of robotics and AI technology.

This makes it very clear that the viral audio was added digitally to Elon Musk’s interview. You can see Musk wearing the same black coat in the TED interview that is seen in the viral edited video.

Next, we searched for relevant news reports that reported about Elon Musk buying the META Company. However, we could not find any news report about the same.

Conclusion-Fact Crescendo found the viral video to be altered. Elon musk did not announce to buy the META Company after Twitter. The viral video is edited. Elon Musk has not mentioned publicly his intent to buy Instagram or Facebook.
