Unrelated and old video shared as fans throwing eggs at Brazil team after their elimination at FIFA World Cup

This video is from 2018 showing Brazilian citizens throwing eggs at a bus carrying the former President of Brazil.

After Brazil’s elimination from the quarterfinals at the FIFA World Cup 2022, a video showing a group of angry fans throwing eggs at a bus is widely circulating on social media with the claim that it shows how Brazilian fans welcomed Brazil’s National football team after their elimination from the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The caption of the video states, “Bus carrying Brazil National Team Players arrive home.”

The caption of a YouTube video stated, “FIFA World Cup 2022. Brazilian National Team is welcomed back home from Qatar.”

We started our investigation by a reverse image search on Google, whose results led us to the same video published on YouTube on 27 March 2018. According to the caption of the video, it shows the citizens of Parana who were throwing eggs at a bus carrying Lula who was the former President of Brazil.

Next, we searched for relevant news reports related to the incident, as per the news report, this video shows a group of protestors in Foz do Iguaçu in Paraná, Brazil. The protestors had attacked the bus by mistaking it as a part of Lula’s convoy during election campaign. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was the former President of Brazil. Protesters both against and in favor of the former president organized new protests. Both these reports were published in 2018.

We ran a keyword to search relevant report of incident were fans throwing eggs at the Brazilian football team, however, we could not find any reports after the elimination of the Brazil team from the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Conclusion-Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The viral video does not show the reaction of the Brazilian team after the elimination of the Brazil team from the FIFA World Cup 2022. The video dates back to 2018 showing the citizens of Parana who were throwing eggs at a bus carrying Lula who was the former President of Brazil.
