The image of a huge crowd is going viral on social media claiming it to be from Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Joda Yatra. It has been shared with the claim that Rahul Gandhi’s initiative received such massive support when it entered Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on 4 December.
Fact Crescendo received the viral video on our WhatsApp Tipline (9049053770) with fact-check requests.
We found that the viral image shows a religious gathering in UP.
WHAT’S THE CLAIM?
A humongous crowd can be seen in the viral image. The text reads, “Massive crowd gathered to welcome Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jahlawar district of Rajasthan.
FACT CHECK
A rivers image search led us to the Twitter handle of one Pankaj Maharaj.
We found similar viral images of the crowd shared on this account on 3 December.
According to the tweet, the crowd was gathered for a religious function in an ashram in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
We contacted Jay Gurudev Ashram. They told us that a ‘Satsang’ (religious function) was organized in the ashram between 1 to 5 December. The viral image shows the devotees who attended this gathering.
On comparing the viral image with the image from Gurudev Ashram, we can see their similarities. We can spot the pandal, shops, trees, and buildings in both images.
We also found a video taken from the same angle as the viral image on Instagram. We reached out to that user who in return sent us the original video.
He also told us that it was not of Bharat Jodo Yatra. It was shot at Jai Gurudev Ashram in Mathura.
Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan
Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Jhalawar district on 4 December. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot shared the video of the rally.
There you can see that viral images are not from Rahul Gandhi’s rally.
CONCLUSION
Hence, it is clear that images from a religious gathering from Uttar Pradesh are falsely shared as a massive crowd gathered for Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan.
