Iran executed the first person in relation to the anti-hijab protests that has rocked the nation since the past three months. A 23-year-old protester Mohsen Shekari was convicted of blocking a road inflicting a knife injury on a paramilitary guard. This is the first known execution in relation with the anti-government protests going on in Iran.
Amidst this, an image of a woman with a severely bruised back is circulating on social media with the claim that it shows an Iranian female demonstrator who was beaten by the government authorities during the anti-hijab protest.
The caption of the image states, “Iranian female demonstrater beaten up by regime’s thugs during #IranRevoIution. This is why @UN_HRC demands investigation.”
Fact Check-
We started our investigation by running a Google reverse image whose results led us to the same image posted on Twitter on 2 March 2021. The caption of the image states, “#Peshawar!! This is a dancing girl named Wafa Khan. She was called by a miscreant named Mansoor Khan in the limits of Varsak Road Police Station Machni Gate. Then tortured them there. The police is also not registering their report. @AbbasAhsan @kpkpolice091”
According to the tweet the incident is from Peshawar in Pakistan showing a woman named Wafa Khan who was tortured by a man named Mansoor Khan near Machni Gate.
Since the image has been available on the internet since 2021, it cannot be related to the recent anti-hijab protests in Iran.
This user has posted several other images of this woman who was injured.
We found that the Capital City Police of Peshawar has replied below this tweet on 6 March 2021 stating, “Immediate action was taken against the named accused in the incident of violence on dancing girl Wafa. A heavy police force under the leadership of DSP Regi has detained 19 suspects from the cell of a man named Mansoor.”
Capital City Police Peshawar had posted the image of the arrested accused on their Facebook profile on 5 March 2021. The caption of the post states, “Immediate action taken against the nominated accused in the incident of violence on Dancing Girl Wafa. A heavy police force led by DSP Regi Gohar Khan has arrested 19 suspects from the cell of a man named Mansoor in Malazai. Upon searching, arms, ammunition, liquor and other goods were recovered from the cell.”

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be False. The viral image has no relation with the ongoing ant- hijab protest in Iran. The image shows an incident that took place in Pakistan in 2021.
