Image of Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina with Brazil Flag is altered

The image was taken in Dhaka in 2017 after Bangladesh won a Test match against Australia, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was present at the time, cheered the team on by waving their national flag.

The picture of holding the Brazilian national flag has been edited.

A photo of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allegedly holding the Brazilian national flag has gone viral on social media, with the caption “Bangladesh prime Minister of sheikh hasina, Brazil supporter “

However, Fact Crescendo found that the viral image is altered.

Fact Check-

By performing a simple reverse image search on Google, we discovered a news report with the original image was published by The New Nation on August 31, 2017 with the description “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina weaving the national flag at the gallery after the Tigers posting a historic 20-run victory over the visiting Australia in their 1st Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s in Mirpur”. 

The same photograph was shared on another news website on 31 August , 2017, with the following description “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was one of the jubilant Tigers’ fans waving the red and green flag in the stands when the Bangladesh cricket team clinched its first-ever Test win against Australia in Dhaka.”

The report continues “Prime Minister’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said Sheikh Hasina personally congratulated the squad, coaches and officials. She called the win an Eid gift for the people of the country. Sheikh Hasina arrived at the stadium with  her grandson after the lunch break on Day 4, when Australia was seven wickets down. As Taijul took Hazlewood’s wicket and sealed the victory the prime minister jumped out of her seat and took the Bangladesh flag handed to her by Bangladesh Cricket Board Chairman Nazmul Hassan. And, as a jubilant Hasina waved the flag, the stadium filled with the sound of thousands of cheering fans”. 

The Aussies were defeated by 20 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the first of a two-match Test series.

Fact Crescendo discovered that the viral photograph of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina holding the Brazilian national flag had been altered. The original photograph was taken in Dhaka in 2017 after Bangladesh won a Test match against Australia, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was present at the time, cheered the team on by waving the national flag.
