Video from Morocco shared as fans singing in support of Palestine during FIFA World Cup

The video has no relation with the FIFA World Cup. The video shows supporters of Raja Casablanca expressing their support for the Palestinian cause in Morocco in 2019.

Since the start of the FIFA Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar, social media has been flooded with images and videos of the tournament. Amidst this, a video showing supporters singing in support of Palestine and waving Palestinian flags is widely circulating on social media. Users claim that the whole Qatar stadium unitedly sang in support of Palestine.

The caption of the post states, “*First time in world’s History.* Whole Qatar FIFA stadium sung together unitedly in favour of Palestine against Jews and Israel.”

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on Google, whose results led us to the same video posted on YouTube. The headline of the video posted on 5 October 2019 stated, “Moroccan Football Fans Show Solidarity with Palestine.”

According to the description, the video dates back to 25 September 2019 showing supporters of Raja Casablanca, a football club based in Casablanca, Morocco, singing in support of Palestine during a match against the Palestinian club Hilal Al-Quds.

Keeping this in mind, we ran a keyword search; whose results led us to a news report by Morocco World News, supporters of Raja Casablanca expressed their support for the Palestinian cause during their team’s game against the Palestinian team Hilal Al-Quds. Rajawi fans waved Palestinian flags and held banners against normalization with Zionists. The tournament was held in Casablanca’s Mohammed V stadium in 2019. 

The fans also shouted, “Palestine, Palestine” and “Gaza, we will never let you down” for more than 90 minutes. The Palestinian’s team goalkeeper, Rami Hamada, started chanting with the crowds for some moments in the middle of the game.

Next, we searched for Casablanca’s Mohammed V stadium in Morocco and found the location of the stadium on Google Maps. Below you can see the comparison between the screengrab of the viral video and the image seen on Google Maps. This makes it clear that the viral video is not from a stadium in Qatar during the FIFA world tournament.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False.The viral video is not from the FIFA tournament in Qatar. The video dates back to 2019 showing the incident that took place in Mohammed V stadium in Morocco. Supporters of Raja Casablanca expressed their support for the Palestinian cause during their team’s game against the Palestinian team Hilal Al-Quds.
