Edited image shared as Go Back Modi protest in Bali during the G20 Leaders Summit

The image was not captured in Bali, Indonesia neither it is a part of a Go Back Modi protest. The viral image is edited.

Several leaders of the world including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Bali in Indonesia to participate in the Food and Energy Security Session at the 17th G20 Leaders Summit.

On social media, an image of a young woman holding a placard that reads “Go back Modi… again Go back Modi” has gone viral. Users claim that this image is from Bali, Indonesia where PM Modi recently visited.

However, Fact Crescendo found that the viral image is edited.

The caption of the post states, “Bali, Indonesia Nov, 2022.”

This image is also circulating on Facebook with the same caption.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a reverse image on Google, whose results led us to a tweet by an author named Wahajat Ali on 1 July 2022.

The caption of the image states, “This lady has been holding this sign in the middle of the intersection, stone cold, not a word uttered.

I still think the country is underestimating the anger of women and Gen Z. They won’t take this sitting down. They won’t go back.”

In this image, we can see the girl holding the placard mentioning, “Democrats and Independents must unite to vote out Republicans. Vote blue this November. Paid by concerned citizens.”

This clearly indicates that the image is digitally altered and is being shared with a false image.

Next, Fact Crescendo reached out Wahajat Ali who confirmed to us that the image was taken by him in Virginia, USA.

This image was taken after the Supreme Court overturned the judgement on Roe v. Wade in June.

Below you can see a comparison between the viral image and the original image. It is very clear that the image was not captured in Bali, Indonesia neither it is a part of a Go Back Modi protest. The viral image is edited.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the viral image to be digitally altered. The viral image does not show Go back Modi protest in Bali, Indonesia. The image dates back during July this year and is not related to PM Modi’s visit in Bali.
