Fact Check–

We started our investigation by running a Google reverse image search along with relevant keywords to find the original version of the viral video. The results led us to the longer version of the interview given by Shah Rukh Khan to Omar Qureshi. The caption of the video uploaded on 19 February 2010 states that ‘Shah Rukh, a proud Muslim and Indian.’ This interview was uploaded by Zoom.

In the 3-minute interview, Omar questions Shah Rukh Khan whether he has ever faced discrimination based on his religion. To this question SRK answered, “Despite my religion, I have been accepted all over the world. Especially in my country, where wrongly people feel is a (pause), people seem to say that Islam is a minority and I think it is an ironic statement to make. Because I have never been made to feel like that. I have been made to feel very special because of my religion here.”

He further said, “We all need to trust and believe in our religions, whatever religion we belong to. I am Islamic by birth, so I believe in Allah,” he also states that he was proud to be a Muslim, an Indian.

He also said that he read Hindu books and practised Hindu rituals with his wife, Gauri, who is Hindu.

The longer version of the video makes it clear that the viral video is edited.

Where did the word Pakistani arise?

During the conversation between Shah Rukh Khan and Omar Qureshi about a year-old incident at Newark airport in the US, where he was detained and questioned for hours.

SRK said, “This was at immigration (counter) and was not at the security (check). The people at immigration were Indians and Pakistanis who knew me. And that point of time, being stalled for a couple of hours was a little irritating because I had to reach somewhere and I was missing that appointment,”

The word Pakistani was picked up from this statement and falsely edited to portray that Shah Rukh Khan claimed that he is a Pakistani.

The part SRK is saying “I am a Muslim” and “Indians and Pakistanis who knew me” has been cut and edited to show that SRK said, “I am a Pakistani.”

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be edited. The viral video is edited and falsely shows that SRK is saying that he is a Pakistani. The video was uploaded in 2010. SRK was originally speaking about an experience at Newark airport in the US.
