The video does not show a cloudburst in Bangalore but shows a time lapse of a cloudburst in Australia.

Things seem to be returning to the former state in Bengaluru after parts of India’s Silicon Valley remained submerged under rainwater following heavy rains. After nearly four days, water has started receding and life is returning to normalcy in the tech corridor of Mahadevapura. However, the city continues to be submerged under water.

Amidst this, a stunning time-lapse video of a cloudburst over a city is widely circulating on social media. Users claim that this video shows the time lapse of a cloudburst in Bangalore.

The caption of the video states, “Time lapse video of cloud burst at Bangalore.”

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on Google; the results led us to a website named the weather channel. According to the website, the video was published on 7 August 2020. It describes the video as Meteorologist Ari Sarsalari taking a close look at a severe storm as it moves in over Perth, Australia.

The video gives credit to Kane Artie and Severe Weather Australia. The date and location mentioned in the video were February 25, 2020 Perth, Australia.

Taking a cue from this, we ran a keyword search whose results led us to the same Facebook video posted by Kane Artie Photography on 2 August 2022. The caption of the video states, “What it feels like in Perth at the moment! Am I right? (Not for media use – licensing available via Severe Weather Australia) Captured in 2020.”

As mentioned, we searched for the same video uploaded in 2020. We found the exact same video posted on the same page. On 25 February 2020, Katie uploaded the video mentioning that he shot the video. The video was shot in Perth, Australia. He shot this view near the Perth Airport in 2020.

According to Kane Artie’s Instagram account, he is a photographer from Perth, Australia who clicks landscape, time lapse and drone shots. Kane has also uploaded the viral video on his Instagram account.

Thus, it is clear that the viral video is neither recent nor from Bangalore. The video was shot in Perth, Australia on 25 February 2020.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The video does not show a cloudburst in Bangalore. The video shows a time lapse of a cloudburst in Perth, Australia shot on 25 February 2020.
