Video of a raid from Agra shared with false ‘Love Jihad’ angle

Agra Police confirmed to us that the incident has no communal angle related to it.

A video showing a few policemen barging into an underground section of a café and busting couples in an intimate situation is widely circulating on social media. Users claim that this video is from a hookah bar in Madhya Pradesh where 15 boys and 15 girls were arrested in a raid. Further, the post claims that all the boys arrested in this raid were Muslims while the girls arrested belonged to the Hindu community.

The caption of the post states, “15 boys and 15 girls have been arrested in the hookah bar in Madhya Pradesh, where the raid was conducted yesterday. All the girls are from well-to-do families. The point is that all the boys are Muslims and all the girls are Hindus, not a single Muslim girl. “

Fact Crescendo found the claims made along with the viral video to be False and shared with a misleading communal claim.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by running a relevant keyword search on Google, whose results led us to a news report published in Amar Ujala on 11 August 2022. According to this report, the incident took place at a café in Sanjay Place in Agra, Uttar Pradesh where several young men and women were caught in an objectionable position. The police have sent a report to cancel the registration of the cafe house. A police officer from the Hariparvat police station shot a video of a couple in an intimate position inside the café. The couple pleaded with the police officer to not record them. However, the police did not pay any attention. Later, when the SSP got information about the viral video shot by the police officers, he later suspended them. Dainik Jagran also reported the same incident.

Later, Fact Crescendo contacted Satyanarayan Prajapat, ASP, Hariparvat Police Station in Agra. He confirmed to us that the incident has no communal angle related to the viral video. He told us that the couples caught in the raid were from the Hindu community as well and were adults. However, he did not reveal the identity of the couples. He also added that no complaints had been filed against anyone.

Conclusion-

 Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The incident took place in the Sanjay Place area of Agra, Uttar Pradesh where the police raided a cafe and found couples in compromising positions in booths. Hariparvat Police confirmed to us that the viral incident does not have a communal angle related to it.
