Most of these images of monuments in various countries with Indian tricolors are edited. Filter Copy originally posted the edited images in 2017.

As part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative under the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” campaign, government buildings and monuments in the country were illuminated in the tricolor. From Maharashtra Raj Bhawan to Delhi’s India Gate to Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial and Howrah Bridge, all are illuminated with tricolour lights on the occasion of 75th anniversary of Indian independence.

Amidst this, several images are widely circulating on social media showing famous monuments in the world claiming that the whole world is celebrating India’s 75th Independence Day and lit their monuments in tricolor.

The caption of the post “The whole World is celebrating 75th India Independence Day. Wonderful Tricolor exhibited in their best monument of various countries. This is the goodwill, which Modiji has created globally. Jai Hind!”

Let’s go through all the images and verify how many of them were actually lit up in tricolor as a celebration of the 75th Independence Day of India.

Fact Check- 

We started our verification by running a Google reverse image search on each of the images.

The results led us to a post by Filter Copy posted on 2017. The caption of the post states, “If famous monuments and buildings were lit up in the Indian tri-colours, here’s what they would look like! #BurjKhalifa #RepublicOfIndia #HappyRepublicDay!”

It is to be noted that the caption mentions “if” the famous monuments were lit up in tricolor.


Upon opening the images individually, we found that each of the image mentioned that it is edited. The image states, “this is an edited picture.”

We found the original images here, here, here and here. You can see the comparison images below.

Further, we found that on 15 August 2020, Adnoc Tower in Abu Dhabi, Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Empire State Building in New York illuminated in the colours of the Indian national flag on the occasion of 74th Independence Day of India.

In 2021, the Ottawa City Hall, a historic heritage building, resplendent in Indian flag colours today to mark India’s Independence Day.

In 2022, Melbourne Cricket Ground and several landmarks across Australia were lit up in the tricolours today to celebrate India’s 75th Independence Day.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral images to be False and digitally altered. Most of these images of monuments in various countries with Indian tricolors are edited. Filter Copy originally posted the edited images in 2017. Several monuments and landmarks were lit up in tricolor in 2020 and 2021. However, it is true that some monuments in Australia and Canada were lit up in Indian tricolor on 75 years of Indian Independence.
