Video from 2014 shared as Russian military paratroopers landing in Ukraine

The video does not show Russian military paratroopers landing in Ukraine. This video is available on the internet since 2014.

As Russian troops enter Ukraine and march towards its capital Kyiv, videos and images of blasts and attacks are being populated on the social media. Many of such videos and images are old and unrelated to the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

One such video showing paratroopers landing from the sky is widely circulating on social media claiming these are Russian military paratroopers landing in Ukraine.

The caption of the post, “Russian military paratroopers land in Ukraine, near Kharkov.”

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running Yandex Reverse image search on the screengrab of the video, which led us to a tweet that posted the same video on 4 September 2016 with the Russian caption “Landing under #Rostov #AirborneTroops”

We also found another Facebook page with the name “Made in Russia” that posted the same video on 18 September 2016 with the caption “Massive air ‘desant’ of Russian VDV airborne troops (around 2000 paratroopers) in Rostov region from 17 Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft. Each Il-76 can take 126 paratroopers (‘desantnik’). Year 2014,”

According to them, the video is from the year 2014 showing 2000 Russian paratroopers landing in Rostov, which is a city in Russia.

When we searched further, we found a 2014 dated video posted on a YouTube channel. Military.com has published the following video on their website. 

According to the website, this is the inside footage of 15,000 Russian airborne troops being dropped in the Rostov Obslat region of Russia with their equipment.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video on social media to be False. The viral video is 8 years old showing Russian paratroopers. This video has no relation with the ongoing clashes with Russia and Ukraine. The video does not show Russian paratroopers landing in Ukraine.
